On November 15th, Luke inked a single-song publishing agreement for his song ‘Bad Habits’ with Rex Benson Music Group (a subsidiary of renown LA-based publishing giant Pen Music Group). The song–which first appeared as an iTunes single following Cunningham’s album ‘Heart Pressure’ was remastered and rereleased for his latest country-tinged EP ‘Kentucky’ (available now on iTunes).
Cunningham claims that the decision to work with Rex Benson/Pen Music Group “just felt like a good match” after he spoke at length with Benson over the course of a few weeks about ‘Bad Habits’–a tune that has without a doubt become a crowd favorite at the songwriter’s shows over the past few years.
The choice in affiliation by Cunningham is no doubt a wise one. As a songwriter–and aside from his success as a music publisher–Rex Benson has written or co-written songs for recording artists Kenny Rogers, Garth Brooks, Tammy Wynette, Don Williams, Joe Diffie, The Oak Ridge Boys & many more. His close affiliation with Pen Music Group has landed Benson and his artists/songwriters A-level placements and cuts on some of the biggest TV networks and shows. His ambitions and first priority for ‘Bad Habits,’ Benson says, is to get the song recorded by a top Nashville country artist.
“The song is straight country,” says Benson, “and that’s right where I want to start off pitching it.”
